My husband, Michael got a call last week and he was asked to sit down for this one. He complied. The guy on the phone said that his daughter was getting a divorce. Michael didn’t need to sit down for that news. It’s not like it’s 1950. She recently found out that her husband blew through an inheritance of $300,000 in recent months due to his gambling problem. She had no idea that he gambled and neither did anyone else. Everyone saw him as a charming, forty-year old who had a pleasant, trouble-free life. Meanwhile this straight up guy also used credit cards in the amount of $98,000 - again, not earth-shattering. Little did anyone know that the hours he spent in a dual-purpose room in his home was his place to gulp lots of Scotch and bet online. This could be a new use for those shows on HGTV - the designers could bring new meaning to dual purpose. So a gambler and drinking- not so unusual. But it wasn’t until he was arrested for protesting Hamas that shocked his family. They knew he was passionate about recent news but never did they think that one day he would go out into the world to defend his beliefs, not with a sign or a baseball bat, instead he brought his golf iron. That was it. That’s why Michael was asked to sit down for this part of the story. But no, that wasn’t it. After his arrest, he was ordered to a mental facility for multiple issues - gambling, drinking, and aggressive behavior. On the day his mother was driving him to the facility, she was telling him that he needed to get his life together and she went on and on about all the things he did wrong throughout his life. As they continued their trip, she noticed he was showing signs of distress, but she ignored it. She kept up her litany of accusations. It wasn’t until they stopped at a red light close to their destination, that he took off his shoe and then he took off his sock and her country club baby stuffed his sweaty sock in her mouth. By this time Michael was glad he was sitting down.

OMGoodness!!! That’s funny but not funny. His poor mom. What has happened to the respect parents deserve and are owed/entitled to. He was obviously still acting out on his own fears and self righteousness; and using his mom to protect it all onto. It’s not easy listening to others when one is already struggling in a frame of mind of a perception THEY created. No matter, I love listening to you tell stories. Even if for a moment I need to say a little prayer. These days we just need to continue loving unconditionally and keep our advice to ourselves. Not ALL lessons that need to be learned involve our thoughts and advice. The lesson is ALWAYS LOVE even if we can’t see that. ♥️
l love to hear your voice and chuckle. I'm still laughing and can see Michael's face with his eyes and mouth wide open. They say , " love makes the world go round", true, but with the state of our world, Regina's humorous telltales add , much needed laughter.
